How To Block Your Number From Being Displayed When Making A Call:
As private investigators, we are often asked about hidden, blocked or secret phone numbers. There are a number of genuine reasons as to why someone would want to keep their phone number private, for example; you want to give feedback about a product to a company and you don’t want them storing your phone number for future sales calls.
You can hide both your landline number and your mobile phone number, and in Australia you can choose to apply the secrecy on a call-by-call basis or permanently. This handy tip works in cities like Sydney and Melbourne and across regional areas like Newcastle and Geelong.
1) Hide your number on a call-by-call basis
- From a landline (or home phone), first dial 1831, followed by the number you wish to call.
- From a mobile, first dial #31#, followed by the number you want to call.
2)Hide your number permanently
Mobile phones are set, by default, to show your caller ID (phone number) when you make a call or send a text message (SMS). Luckily, you can turn it off.
- iPhones: Just go to, Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID (and turn it off)
- For Android phones: Go to, Phone > Settings > Call Settings > More Settings > Caller ID (or similar… and, again, just turn it off).
For landlines (home phones), a small monthly fee of $2.93 applies (Telstra) if you want to hide your number. To activate the service, simply call Telstra (or your local service provider) and follow the prompts until you reach the appropriate person, then just ask them to hide your number. This will also mean that your personal details, like your name, number and address, will not be published in directories such as the White Pages or any directory assistance services.
If you are being harassed by phone calls from hidden numbers and you think you know who it might be, but you need some confirmation, then you should consider the services of a Professional PI.
